Entering the Tournament

You have ii ways to start the next quest; either caput over to most whatsoever notice board in Novigrad and take the notice "Loftier Stakes Gwent Tournament" or simply caput to the Passiflora and notice a Scribe to the due north of Marquise Placidity, who is busily denying a potential Gwent player entry into a tournament. After the pitiful pass up departs, talk to the scribe, testify him your cards, and pay the 1,000 Crown entry fee. High stakes tournament, indeed!

One time you pay upward y'all'll get your ticket and head upstairs, where a woman named "Sasha" will pester you. Talk to her to learn the names of your competitors, including Patrick Hazelnutt, Bernard Tulle, Finneas and Count Tybalt. Follow Sasha's communication and talk to your competition while waiting for Count Tybalt.

Your first match will be against Barnard Tulle (left), after which Sasha will meet you outside for some scheming (right).

Your first friction match volition be against Barnard Tulle (left), afterward which Sasha will come across you outside for some scheming (correct).

Barnard Tulle Match

After you're done talking to the concluding of the three, the rules volition be announced and the players will be paired off, with your first foe of the night being Barnard Tulle. Talk to him to play him; he's got a powerful, but rather straight-frontward Northern Kingdom decks, including fifteen Strength Hero Cards like "Geralt of Rivia" and "Ciri". He's too fond of "Biting Frost" cards and not above using "Commander's Horn" and "Scorch" cards. He will also make use of his "Foltest, the Steel-Forged" bill of fare, which will limit the usefulness of your siege cards, so try to avert playing too many of the same Strength at once to avoid this card. Sadly, your "Catapult" cards will have to be sacrificial lambs here. This is besides the carte you win if you defeat the halfling.

Objective Reward
For defeating Barnard Tulle at Gwent twenty XP, Foltest, the Steel-Forge Card

After the match Sasha will bother you again and ask to talk to you on the balcony. Concord and follow her to hear her out, where she'll tell you what she'due south later on here, and where she heard of you lot. Best case scenario yous win the tournament and have control of the winner's purse yourself. If you fail to win… well, she insists information technology might be lucrative if you remain until the end anyways. You should have no intention of losing, however, as you'll just gain the unique cards each role player has if you beat them, and that means you'll need to sweep the tournament.

Sasha Match

Return back to the common room where the next two opponents volition exist named. Seems similar you're playing Sasha. Head back upstairs and talk to Sasha, who insists y'all play to the best of your capabilities. That'southward a little up to luck, isn't information technology? She'south got a nasty Nilfgaardian deck, fielding plenty of high-strength Cards (both normal and hero cards), the "Dandelion" carte, the "Villentretenmerth" card and the odd "Scorch" menu. Strangely enough, she doesn't make much use of "Tight Bond" cards, nor does she apply - or actually have much of a way to counter - conditions cards, but considering how many hero cards she plays, weather cards will probably injure you more her anyway.

The real difficulty in facing her stems from the cool amount of "Decoy", "Medic" and "Spy" cards she has, which she'll gladly use to either perpetuate her strongest cards in later rounds, or to constantly threaten to out-carte du jour y'all by playing and re-playing "Spy" cards. She's the only role player in the game that has a realistic shot of out-powering and out-carding the all-time Northern Kingdoms deck you can assemble, even if you draw a good hand. On summit of this she'll utilise her "Emhyr var Emreis, the Relentless" leader menu to snatch a card from your discard pile, usually a "Medic" or "Spy" card.

She's probably the toughest Gwent player y'all'll confront in the game, so if you beat her, kudos! It's all downhill from hither, in terms of difficulty.

Objective Reward
For defeating Sasha at Gwent 45 XP, Emhyr var Emreis, the Relentless Card
Sashas got one of the most potent Gwent decks in the game, one that youll need a potent deck to even compete with (left). Finneas, on the other hand, has a rather weak deck, something he tries to make up for with poor sportsmanship (right).

Sashas got one of the almost stiff Gwent decks in the game, ane that youll need a stiff deck to fifty-fifty compete with (left). Finneas, on the other manus, has a rather weak deck, something he tries to make up for with poor sportsmanship (right).

Finneas Match

Defeat her and you'll immediately exist put into a friction match with Finneas, who just agrees to play when faced with forfeiture. He's by far the easiest opponent yous've faced in this tournament, using a fairly standard Scoia'tael deck. He has a few Hero Cards, and high-strength cards, and some "Muster" cards, but honestly he can be easily defeated with a lucky hand of "Spy" and "Decoy" cards to simply out-spend him, or the ever handy "Villentretenmerth" and "Decoy" combo to smash away his "Muster" cards. This is skillful news for you, too, since you tin can't save in between playing him and Sasha.

Objective Reward
For defeating Finneas at… life 45 XP, Francesca Findabair, Queen of Dol Blothanna

Later the friction match he'll take offense at losing, and beginning a fight. Although he's loftier level, if you know how to parry punches by now, he's no more difficult than whatsoever other fist-fighter. Only parry, counter, and go along until he falls. In one case he does, you'll exist able to challenge Count Tybalt for the grand prize. Save your game, then play Gwent with Tybalt.

Count Tybalt Match

Every bit y'all might expect, he'due south got a Monster deck. While these can be initially challenging, by at present Monster decks are very predictable. Utilise "Spy" cards to out-card him (a tactic which doesn't work as well for him when he attempt to "Decoy" your Spy cards back at y'all, since the Monster decks relies heavily on "Muster" cards), and if you're lucky, you'll get "Villentretenmerth", which you tin spam with "Decoy" to obliterate said "Muster" combos. When yous defeat him, you'll become yet another Leader bill of fare; "Eredin, Destroyer of Worlds".

Objective Reward
For defeating Count Tybalt at Gwent 72 XP, Eredin, Destroyer of Worlds Card

The Heist

In one case you are victorious you and Count Tybalt will be informed that some dastardly thieves sneaked off with the purse! Sasha proclaims her innocence to Geralt, and he takes her at face value. Agree to help her recover the money - your coin - and she'll smooth talk her way by a guard. Follow the baby-sit upstairs to the scene of the law-breaking, where, later on more wordplay from Sasha, you lot'll be left solitary. Use your Witcher Senses and search the dead baby-sit, so investigate the scratch on the floor almost the door to the north. Once done head out onto the balcony and search a crossbow bolt tied to a cord to the due east.

Geralt and Sasha will talk some more than and deduce a probable sequence of events. Head downstairs and leave the brothel to notice a search expanse along the north-eastern corner of said brothel. Activate your Witcher Senses and investigate some rope, after which Geralt will detect a scent trail. Follow the trail due south then up some stairs to find a box on the basis, which bears markings that lead Sasha to suggest a specific warehouse.

Objective Reward
For following the thief's trail 45 XP
Investigate the crime scene (left) then follow the trail of clues outside until you find evidence that leads you to the culprits (right).

Investigate the offense scene (left) and so follow the trail of clues outside until you find evidence that leads you to the culprits (correct).

Head to a warehouse along the s-western border of Novigrad's central commune where you lot'll rendezvous with Sasha, who is sporting a sensible modify of attire. Circle around to the northern end of the warehouse (perhaps stumbling upon the wagon the thieves used earlier) and climb some boxes to reach a wooden platform that volition grant you access to the warehouse.

Go through a window and drib downwards to the flooring to detect the thieves loitering around forth the southward-eastern side of the building, led by their boss, who is, equally expected, one of your boyfriend Gwent players. Violence is, of course, unavoidable, and these Bandits are quite powerful (level 20-four), but despite beingness perchance out-matched, there are a few factors that make this fight winnable. Commencement, you have lots of room to retreat. Second, countering a few aggressive Bandits isn't too hard, regardless of their level. 3rd, you lot can use hit and run tactics, the adept old Strong Attack/Dodge philharmonic that works then well. Fourth, Sasha will help out, and she's powerful and invincible, so while you play defensively, she will likely practise most of the work.

Defeat the thieves in the warehouse (left) after which Geralt and Sasha will make off with the money, have a nice dinner… and perhaps a little fun for dessert (right).

Defeat the thieves in the warehouse (left) after which Geralt and Sasha volition make off with the money, take a squeamish dinner… and perhaps a piddling fun for dessert (correct).

Afterwards they're all dead, Sasha will invite y'all to dinner at the Kingfisher. Question her further and she'll requite you her virtually-real name, subsequently which experience costless to accept the dinner invitation. You lot'll rejoin your conspirators back at the aforementioned inn, where Geralt is telling a story. Ill of the small talk, Sasha - or whoever she really is - volition invite Geralt upstairs for an intimate re-enactment of his past exploits. This ends the quest "High Stakes". Geralt got a flake of coin, a few new Gwent cards, and got laid. All in all, a good day for Geralt. Read the note "Letter from Cantarella" on the bed when you come to - ah well, easy come, easy get.
